Microdermabrasion is a treatment where the dead cells of the skin’s surface are partially or completely removed by light abrasion. A diamond tipped hand piece, combined with crystal technology, is moved over the skin.  This gently vacuums away dead skin cells debris, which can clog pores. This deep exfoliation treatment is designed to smooth and soften the texture of the skin by polishing and refining it.

Although the face is the most common area treated, other sun-damaged areas such as the neck, chest, arms and hands may be treated.

It can improve many unwanted skin conditions including:

At River City Cosmetic Clinic we offer three different types of Microdermabrasion treatments.

• Diamond Microdermabrasion (fine, medium, coarse tips)
• Crystal Microdermabrasion
• Vibradermabrasion

We perform Microdermabrasion in two ways:

1. Microdermabrasion without masques
2. Microdermabrasion with a pre and post treatment masque

The main purpose of the BHA pre treatment masque is to soften the band that holds dead skin cells together.  This assists with exfoliation and reduces pore obstructions. This masque also draws impurities from the skin. Being pH buffered to 4.5, it is suitable for teenage through to mature skins. It has the ability to penetrate sebum filled follicles to dissolve dead skin within the pores and effectively combats facial oil. 

The post treatment masque is for moisture and hydration. This masque soothes, calms and helps heal the skin with its powerful antioxidants, anti-inflammatory and anti-ageing properties.

Vibradermabrasion with Vibrafusion technology

After your professional skin analysis in our clinic, the experienced dermal therapist will recommend the right type of Microdermabrasion and tailor your treatment accordingly. Very often it is necessary to combine different treatment modalities with Microdermabrasion in order to get optimal results. Recommended combinations are as follows:

Microdermabrasion is not painful and should not be confused with "dermabrasion", which is a more abrasive medical procedure and now practiced less commonly. There is no downtime after Microdermabrasion, as your therapist will use a pre treatment preparation masque and post treatment hydration masque to settle healthy skin redness.

Clients who have been on the acne medication Accutane should not have diamond or crystal Microdermabrasion for 6 months after stopping the medication.  However, the Vibradermabrasion treatment is gentler and suitable to use.

How many treatments will I need?

Although a beneficial effect is visible after the first treatment, we recommend a course of 6 treatments over 2 months to treat underlying skin concerns: then 1-2 treatments every 3-6 months for ongoing skin maintenance.  This simple, non-invasive lunchtime procedure, in combination with a professional home skin care regime, provides impressive, affordable results.
